U4GM Guide to snag the free Ray Gun on Astra Malorum

Beitrag von Alam560 »

Let's be honest, nobody boots up Astra Malorum because they're excited to burn half their points in the box, praying for a Ray Gun and pulling the same boring sniper three times in a row, especially when you could be chilling in a CoD BO7 Bot Lobby instead. The cool thing is you do not actually have to leave it to luck on this map. There's a hidden way to grab a guaranteed Ray Gun for free, and it all comes down to the wisps, the lanterns dotted around the map, and a very specific moment with the Zarya Cosmodrome rocket.

Finding And Grabbing Your First Wisp
At the start, ignore your usual instinct to rush kills and look around for lanterns on walls and in odd corners. Most of them look dead, but you want the one with that faint little glow inside. When you spot it, line up your shot, ADS right on the light and just hold it. It feels weird standing there for about five seconds while zombies shuffle toward you, so it's safer if you've got a crawler or a friend keeping them busy. Hold your aim steady long enough and the wisp will pop out and latch onto your character, almost like it's orbiting you.

Why You Should Not Waste Your Wisps
This is where a lot of players mess it up without realising. The game lets you flick those wisps off with a melee attack, and they're strong, like instant pop-a-zombie strong. You can even chain them into other lanterns to grab extra perks, which sounds great in the moment. Thing is, you really need to resist that urge. You can hold up to five wisps at once and the map gives you one new spawn each round, but you only truly need one for the Ray Gun trick. So, once you've got at least one wisp on you, pretend your melee button does not exist for a bit, because if you throw it too early you're back to square one.

Watching The Sky For The Zarya Rocket
After you're carrying a wisp, the mood of the game changes a little. You're not just running trains anymore, you're also sky-watching. You're looking past the playable area for the big quest rocket from the Ashes of the Damned storyline, cutting across the sky like it owns the place. From testing and normal runs, it hardly ever shows up early. Expect it somewhere around Round 16 or a little later. If you miss the first pass, don't freak out, it tends to loop back roughly every 15 minutes or so, but it's not on a perfect timer. The safest play is to keep doing your round setup while taking quick glances toward the horizon whenever things calm down.

Landing The Wisp And Claiming Your Ray Gun
When you finally see the Zarya Cosmodrome rocket roaring across the sky, that's your green light. You need to time a melee so it throws your stored wisp toward the moving rocket. The wisp has travel time, it's not instant, so you've got to lead the target a bit like you would with a slow projectile weapon. Aim just ahead of the rocket's path, swing, and hope you read the angle right. If the wisp connects with the hull, the game quietly rewards you with a Ray Gun drop at your feet, no points spent, no box drama, just a clean pickup that lets you melt high-round hordes and feel like you actually earned it, especially after grinding normal matches or a cheap CoD BO7 Bot Lobby in U4gm to warm up.
