I used to prefere the American accent, too, in my first years of learning English. And it just sucked when my English teacher tried to make us pronounce "dance" in the British English way, because to me the American English pronounciation sounded better at that time. I guess it was because I was used to it. Most Popsongs were in AE, so why the hell did we have to learn it differently?
Now I've changed my mind and I'm glad my English teacher speaks Oxford English - though the English speaking is sometimes pretty rare in our lessons..
But my teacher is a real genious when it comes to languages. He speaks German (of course ), English, French and Italian (nearly) perfect and he can do lots of German and some English slangs. And the best yet: He can speak a bit of Erse (=Gälisch), some kind of celtic language. Sounds truly amacing.

Well, our teachers are idiots. Our German teacher only can speak german, our english teacher english and german. But our french teacher is better. He can speak german, english, french and latin.

pronunciation ist soemthing really strange. I learned mostly British English in school. last semester I had a course on phonetics, which is dealing mainly with this. We were practicing to pronounce words correctly. Unfortunately, my teacher was American. Now, after that course I'm totally confused about English and American pronunciation.

Haven´t lookend at tis thread a long time... So I don´t know exactly what you´re talking about. Pronounciation, I think?
It´s terrible... My teacher speaks AE, and I like those sounds more. The long vocals... Great. But we´ve got to speak BE... Not easy for me^^

Well, Franzi, I'm also a bit confused about the differences between BE and AE - especially the spelling.
For example is the British spelling "(to) realise" and the American spelling "(to) realize". It's no big deal but now confuse it with some other words that are written with z in BE, too.

I prefer BE, I don't know why, probably because I listen most to bands from England like Arctic Monkeys and The Kooks, love them

@ Phoeliz: It's funny, we have a BE englishbook in school, but "realize" and "recognize" is always pronounced with "z".
I noticed the difference when I first read "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone", and I was a bit confusing... ;)

Oh, Bella i know what you mean... Our mathsteacher often says things like "shit" or "as" in the lessons but we mustn't talk like this in school... (I mean, of course we're doing ist but... )
